Geocommons

Here's a great tool for philanthropy - GeoCommons. Upload a data set - grants made, proposals received, demographic data, public revenue - and see it on a map. Check out this samples of individual political contributions or this one on rural population projections to see what is possible.

I have been involved in several projects mapping foundation grantees over demographics, but so far none of the work has been public.

The folks at HealthyCity.org have also been working on analyzing the total grant dollars invested in South Central LA by 4-5 different foundations.

FoundationSearch could be the data source for a lot of this type of work.

Let me know if you would like to learn more...
