Picking Winners

Nonprofits and philanthropic organizations are in the midst of another high tide of being pressured to be more businesslike. In the U.S., this mindset never goes away but it does seem to ebb and flow.

Its also comforting, to me anyway, when the business press acknowledges that commercial enterprise might have something to learn from social benefit organizations. This is the case in the May 2007 issue of the Harvard Business Review, perhaps the Bible of business press. It features an interview with Daniel Socolow, who runs the MacArthur Foundation's Genius Grants program. The article, Picking Winners, can be downloaded for a fee and is available to subscribers.
